Climate Inspired Womens Brooch with Feather

This piece was inspired by human action towards planet Earth, and how these actions impact the relationship of animals with our shared planet. 

An earthy copper feather has been attached to salvaged black leather, then sheathed in sterling silver. The feather appears to be floating above the murky darkness, to which it is tethered. The sheath begins to open, loosening its grasp. What will be the outcome?

A hand stamped message is imprinted on the back of the silver - “rise above” - next to a teardrop shape. The teardrop may symbolize sorrow, the drop of an oil spill, or perhaps both.

Circular brooch is just under 2 inches (5.08 cm) in both height and width. The copper feather was given a heat patina to bring about its beautiful colors. This jewelry functions best when the pin is threaded through a loosely woven fiber rather than piercing a hole in fabric.

Feather brooch is an original design from Indyspire Art, lovingly made by hand with special attention to detail. Recycled sterling silver was used in creating this piece. The leather is reclaimed material from a four generation, family owned business.
